Grass...

How different, this year has been.  The view above, was what we had, this time last year.  We had been blessed with less than an inch of rain, in six weeks...with record number of days, of record high temperatures.  It was a bit dry.

To say it's better this year, would be a vast understatement.

I stepped out in the yard, to get a better view of the sun behind this grass.  I'm not sure what kind of grass this is.  It looks like a fountain grass of some kind.

It's very pretty to me.  Especially, in the early evening, with the sun behind it.

The deer don't eat these grasses.

They're ever present, though.  You can almost hear their thoughts.....'Is she bringing us something?'

I turned around, and here is our least cautious doe..a mother of two.  She'll come almost close enough for you to touch her.  She's always hoping for a hand-out.
She has a crooked leg.  Not sure how that happened.
So, Mr. P. named her Eilean....he's such a comedian.

But, I guess I'll keep him, anyway.

Happy Gardening...

  1. Wow Linda, what a difference a little rain makes. Everything looks quite green. Mr.P has a great smile. He looks worth keeping. Thank you for the nice comment on my blog. Next time you are in Hot Springs, you will have to stop -

  2. This year is different for us too. We usually NEVER have green grass into August. And with that green comes more BUGS. But it is still very nice to have all that green.

I wonder why the deer don't eat that kind of grass? I thought they ate everything in sight!

Funny about your h. Does he read your blog?

  3. Mr. P is a keeper. We'll be married 45 years, this November.
He does read the blog, occasionally.
I have to watch him....he'd give Eilean all the fresh veggie we have.
I don't know why the deer don't eat those grasses. They don't seem to mess with any of the ornamental grasses, either. They do like blooms, though. I noticed this morning, somebody ate all the blooms on a yellow lantana. They haven't touched our neighbor's.
    It's impossible to figure out!

  4. Hi Linda,

Wow! What a difference. I love how you captured the sunlight shining through the grass plumes. Isn't it amazing how much a difference rainfall can make from year to year?

  5. I'm glad you posted this. The difference from last year to this is amazing!

Deer are not big grass-eaters, any kind of grass. They prefer "forbs", leaves and soft stems.
