This and That on Friday...

Well...another week gone by.
This year, is flying.

We haven't had any real rain, for over a week.
I'm having to water...yes, water.
It's pretty amazing how fast things can dry out.

But, the creek is still flowing.

It comes across the cart path here, and the path gets really slippery.
But, it sounds nice. Here, and the waterfall, further down.

Kids have built another place for the water to make noise.

The Mexican Hats are beginning to take off.

And, the grasses.
I'm not a fan of Johnson Grass, unless it's on the other side
of Elli's Meadow. The seed heads are really pretty.
Especially, backlit with the sun.

I ran up to our local garden/feedstore the other day,
for a few more plants. (can you have too many plants?)
 And, there looking like some
strange thing peeking at me, was this
Giant Silk Moth...
Antheraea polyphemus.
Really cool...and, about six inches across.

Never know what you'll find, at the garden center.

That's about all from here. Watering and weeding
have taken up the week.
And, I do believe Summer may be here.

Have a great weekend.

All Gone...

Remember when I told you about all the verbena in Elli's Meadow?

Remember I told you the butterflies were swarming around, loving the display?

Well....Elli's grandsons showed up to mow.  They mowed and they mowed.
Before anyone noticed, the whole meadow was mowed.
The flowers are all gone.

The butterflies are unhappy, we're unhappy, and I think it's safe to say...Elli is unhappy.
But hey.....the boys did a thorough job.

It'll all come back.  Just maybe not this year.

Also all gone, is the water in the creek and this catch pond.
We're now less than half an inch of rain, for this month.
And, the temperatures are heating up.

We're hoping the rain in not all gone!

The mulching is mostly done.  Thank goodness....it's really warm out there.

Up and Back...

This is what we were doing last weekend.
Back up to Kansas to watch the grandkids, while our daughter had sinus surgery.

That gave us the opportunity to see our grandson's first soccer game.
He scored FOUR goals!

Back home....Elli's Meadow is shining with verbena.
Her daughter and grandsons mowed a large bit of this, but left a good amount of the wildflowers.
Elli is afraid of snakes coming up.

Last year there was nothing blooming here.  Amazing what rain can do.

Speaking of amazing....the Jerusalem Sage is breaking out in blooms.

I love these funky, Dr. Seuss blooms.
I think we need more of these around here.

OK....I need to get out there and plants some things we hauled all the way home from Kansas.
Rain is in the forecast,
so I better FOCUS.

Hope you had a good weekend, too.

Happy Gardening...
