Change....

Just before Christmas, Mr P surprised me, with a new laptop.
My old one was getting so slow.  Filling it up with photos wasn't helping.

He was tired of hearing me gripe bemoan that fact.

And so, this arrived at the front door.

I had a Dell before.  This Toshiba is a bit different.  The touch pad is taking a while to get used to.
I have to turn it off when I'm typing.  A slight touch, makes the cursor dance all over the place, and before I know it, I'm typing somewhere I didn't want.  And, those fun times, when  whole PAGES were deleted.

I know, as my daughter-in-law tells me, I could use a remote mouse, like she has to.
But, that's just more stuff to keep up with.

And...Windows 8...what can I say?
From my point of view, it's NOT an improvement.
It takes more 'steps' to do things than the old system did.  I'm not crazy about the 'tiles'.
They might make more sense on a touch screen.

So, I click on that lower left tile.  It takes me to the desktop, which is close to the old kind.
I can navigate easier from there.

When they make something 'new & improved', it should be BETTER.
Don't you think?

But, I'm learning.  I guess you CAN teach an old dog, new tricks.
I learn something new, every day.  That's a good thing....sometimes.

***********

The weather today is beautiful here.
I need to get off this computer, and get outside in the garden.

I hope the weather is good where you are.
If you're in the frozen part of the country, stay warm & hang in there.
Nothing stays the same way for long.

Things always change.

Happy Gardening...

  1. That terrible losing posts and data...any way to recover it, from your blogger draft folder/section? Windows 8 sounds like it's terrible; Windows 7 (on my laptop) is a definite improvement over the previous Vista. Really makes no sense when how something works well, gets changed to be less tactile.

  2. Losing posts is not fun at all. You'll get there soon, it's not fun to change computers. I blog from a desktop computer with an external drive for my photos which avoids filling up the computer drive. Old fashioned but it works. I read blogs on a tablet but find it hard to comment.

  3. Good luck! My husband just bought a laptop purposely with Windows 7, as he'd heard 8 was difficult to work with.

  6. I just got my first look at Windows 8 last week. I don't know what those Microsoft people are thinking. Scared the bejeebers out of me and I'm a techie. At least you can revert to desktop mode. Phewwww.

  7. I am so very computer illiterate. I can imagine how frustrating it is to learn a new computer's ways. Good luck! I'm sure you'll soon be a pro at it!

  8. A friend of mine got a new Win 8 computer...I had never fooled with it, but was trying to do some stuff for her. It isn't horrible, but it is different for sure. I had much rather have my Win 7. I have an HP laptop, and the one I had before was an HP....the old hp, I could turn the touchpad off and on..it had a little button I pressed. Very nice, very convenient. This one is like you say yours in...I have days I have to turn it off...I do have a remote mouse...can't stand the touchpad...takes me all day to do anything using it..

  9. I do NOT like laptops and wouldn't have one, personally. I love my PC. :-) My husband has a laptop that he uses infrequently, and when I try that touchpad, I get so frustrated. As for Win 8, I'm with you---it should be better and it shouldn't require having to learn everything all over again. I resisted moving to Windows 7 because I liked XP; I now dread the day when I have to go to Win 8. (BTW...regarding your comment about my image of the Aussie shepherd in the back of the truck. They are outdoor dogs and they are quite comfortable in the cold. Although we've had snow for about 18 hours, the temperature has warmed to above freezing now.

This is a word verification free blog. It seems to be working out, so far.
