Foliage Follow-Up, June 2014....

The day after Bloomday.....
time for Pam's Foliage Follow-Up.

I'll do the same as for Bloomday...
photos with few words.

 'Gold Dust' Acuba

 Yucca 'Color Guard'....thought this was a goner...deer & flood.
But, it's putting on pups.

Lots of figs this year.  We'll see if they make it to ripeness.

Yucca 'Color Guard' in New Front Bed.
 Grass Bed from back.
Purple Fountain Grass, Lemon Grass, African Iris...salvias & yarrow.

 Grass Bed from side.
Mexican Feather Grass, Gulf Muhly, prickly pear and Spanish Bayonet yucca, rosemary, etc.

 Grass Bed from front.
Agave Lophantha in front.

Sago Palm...this poor thing had a hard time this last winter.

Along side, in Fenced Yard.
Aralia, purple heart, lamb's ear, dianella, liriope, asparagus fern.
Filling in slowly.....

Yucca Rostrata in Island Bed in front.
This is really growing.  I hope I'm not sorry about where it sits.

Soft Leaf Yucca....thought this one wasn't going to make it back
from the Halloween Flood.  But, it's looking good.

One of my new succulent pots.

 The other one...

Fits into the 'Tropical Corner', on the porch.

So, that's it for this month.
We have more foliage here, than blooms.
But, we like it that way.

Go over to Pam's, and see more great foliage.

'Til later...
Take care...

  1. Those grass beds? Gorgeous from any angle. Totally love your mixed succulent gardens-in-a-pot. I recently bought some new ones but resisted the urge to put them all together hoping they'd each fill in their pots and provide me with an ongoing supply for mixed plantings. We'll see if I can remain patient long enough for that strategy to pay off!

    1. Some of those succulents get a bit large, I think. I need to do research.
My luck with them is not too good. So large might never be something to worry about.

  2. I tried out an acuba last year and I really liked it's trouble free nature. I've been wanting to try out an aralia, but it looks like it would need a lot of water. What's your take on it's growing habits?

    1. So far, so good with the Aralia. The cold didn't bother it at all. It's growing faster this year. Maybe the rain has something to do with that. I water that bed with a soaker hose once or twice a week, depending on how it looks.
It's supposed to take over that spot....or, at least, that's the plan.

  3. I think all Cycads had a hard winter. Mine did.

    Are you watering your figs?

    1. I read on your blog a while back, that figs need extra water when the fruit sets.
I've been throwing on some extra, the soaker waters deep, once a week, and we've had some extra rain this spring.
      I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

  4. Your Yucca rostrata is looking super fine! Did you buy a big one, or has it been growing a while? I've found that mine has grown much faster than the tag advertised, which suits me just fine.

    1. I was lucky enough to win the gift certificate from Shoal Creek, that Jenny was giving away a few years back, and I knew exactly what I wanted.
If I remember right, it was about a two or three gallon. This is the first year it's taken off.
It's in the front Island Bed...inside the circular drive. Guess it has room to do its thing. I just thought it would take longer.

  5. Hi Linda! I'd love to have my own figs. Fig jam is my favorite! Your Yucca Rostrata is.wonderful, such an eye catcher!

  6. The Acuba looks great! I want to try that out in the "tropical" area I'm trying (slowly) to create in one area of my garden. Re the figs, my own mistreated tree on the untended back slope gets few fruits and the even those seem to disappear (presumably down the gullet of a squirrel).

  7. Really love your succulent pots. I love succulents, but the pots that i do never really seem to look as good as others that I see.. Your shots really look summery!

  8. Everything looks great! I love those succulent pots, too. Even the pottery is fabulous. :o)

  9. I love all the shots of your garden and we grow a lot of the same plants (only yours look better!).
However, I must say your porch shot with all those cozy corners and plants is my favorite. I'll bet you enjoy sitting there.

  10. So glad to see you mostly recovered from the flood. I had a lot of damage that October30th and we are nearly back better than we were. Sometimes there is opportunity in what looks like disaster.
