Passion in the Garden...

Passion Flowers, that is.

It seems to be a small theme, this year.

First, our daughter got one, for her new/old garden.

She texted me this picture.

It's the purple variety...but, a bit different than some I've seen.

So, when we were down there, she and I took a trip...two whole blocks...

to the local garden center, to get one for me.

No purple left.

So, I got a Scarlet Passion Vine.

I like it.

It's not as hardy, though. I may have to treat it like an annual.

Then...the other night, when I was doing the evening Garden Walk,

I noticed a bloom, on the fence in the Fenced Yard.

Small blooms...

I'd left this vine, when I cut things back on this fence.

I'm glad I did.

Turns out, it's a Wild Passion Vine.

Passiflora lutea.

The blooms are only the size of a quarter.

But, they're very interesting.

That vine has been on the fence for a couple years.

I never noticed any blooms.

Don't you love GOOD garden surprises?

And, I guess you could say we have more results of

"garden passion".

Yep...this year's crop, is showing up.

And So, It Begins....

A new crop of hungry mouths to feed.

They're He-e-re.....

Yep...

It has begun.

New little deer.  More mouths to feed.

Hard to catch sight of them right now.  They're very new.

But, they'll be braver, and the mommas will let them be seen

more, in a couple weeks.

Gotta admit...they're really cute.

Even if they'll be growing up, and eating my landscape.

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity, Jig....

It's that time of year again.

May is when the wildflowers bloom here.

Just a week or so ago, I was lamenting that none were blooming here.

I return from a trip, and the Mexican Hats are in full bloom.

The prickly pear are putting on quite a show.

The ones I've moved from the Grove, to the house, seem really happy.

Then there are these guys.

They're showing up all over the neighborhood.

It's no secret, there will be more mouths to feed.

It's also that time of year, when I get together with some dear friends.

This year, we went back to Florida.

One of our group has a beach condo, in Panama City Beach.

We sat on the beach.

We enjoyed beautiful sunsets.

I stayed a couple extra days.  My hostess and I went for dinner across the bay.

We drove by the house above.  Is that garden amazing, or what?

This gentleman ran past us on the beach each day.

I'm betting he's a veteran.

So, I'm letting his image help me wish you a happy, and safe

Memorial Day.

May~~Revisited....

Just a little recap of a busy month of 

May...

And, it really was a busy month...from start to finish.

**We started the month with a brand new bed, on the back of the house.

**Finished up the mulching.

**Told you about the San Antonio Mission Trail.

**Had some blooms and foliage to show you.

**Greeted a new crop of deer. 


**Took you along on the annual 'girls' trip.

One thing I didn't post about, but it was a very important event.
See those two beautiful young people, in the lower right of the collage above?

 They're our twin, oldest grandchildren.

And now, they are both college graduates.

I can't tell you how very proud we are of them.

May was a very good month.

Now, on to June....

It's that time of year, again.

We knew this mamma was looking a bit thinner.

More kids to take care.

Two more mouths to feed.

Oh, yeah...they grow up and eat the landscape.

But for now...they're really cute.

A New Crop

If you’ve visited here before, you know we live in Deer Country. LOTS-of-deer Country.

And, here we are at the time of year, when the deer population increases.

The little ones are cute. The big ones are cute. They’re all merrily munching on the wild things, in the Deer Grove and Elli’s Meadow.

The new ‘crop’ arrives in ones, and twos and sometimes threes.

I think there is at least one, in this doe’s future.

And, this one, too.

Meanwhile, the guys just hang out in the Deer Grove…..keeping an eye on things.

All this means more mouths to feed, around here. So, OK…..where is that deer repellant spray????

Oh, Deer!!

I know I complain about the deer....a LOT. What they don't eat, they pull up. Or, they stomp on it. I have had a little success with some plants lately. They've left them alone....at least for the time being. I sprayed some with a repellent that seems to work pretty well. And, I put some deer mesh around some others, to give them a chance to take hold. But, it's all probably just a matter of time, before they get chomped. Our neighborhood is well know for the deer problem. At our local garden supply, they say they should put a disclaimer on the plants marked "deer resistant", to say, "Except in Woodcreek". They show up in what I've named the Deer Grove, every morning and every evening. And, sometimes during the middle of the day. One day, I counted eighteen in the back yard! They stop by for a drink. This birdbath was in the middle of a flower bed. What was I thinking? They stomped down everything to get to the water.

So, now, it sits out in the yard.

Then, yesterday, we were visited by one of our new neighbors.

At first, he was curious.

Then, he decided it might be best to hang out with Mom.

He's not the only new neighbor. We've seen ones younger than this one, and a few a bit older. The population has been increased quite a bit. And they're so cute.

But I know, whatever I've planted will be in danger of becoming part of their salad bar. We'll just have more customers now.
