Big Limb Down...

We were out the other night.
Coming home in the dark, we knew it had rained,
but maybe there was some wind, too.

When I got up the next day,
I saw this huge limb down,
across the street, in the vacant lot.

The deer were loving it.

There were maybe twenty, when I first looked out.
Several ran away, when I walked outside.

They came and went all day.

This morning, you can see how much they ate.

Those leaves must taste good.

Walking around yesterday, I saw no other limb damage.
Maybe it wasn't wind. Maybe this limb was just ready to break.

Luckily, nobody was hurt.

Happy Birthday, National Park Service....

Today, is the
100th Birthday,
of the
National Park Service.

Founded on
August 25, 1916,
by Theodore Roosevelt and Horace Albright,
the Park Service manages the National Parks, most National Monuments,
and National Historic Sites.

My love of National Parks started early.
My parents loved to camp...and fish...and national lands
were a good place to do that.

Mr. P and I, took our children, when they were small.

In recent years, we've been to quite a few.

Ready?

Grand Canyon National Park

Joshua Tree National Park

Grand Tetons National Park

Yellowstone National Park

Glacier National Park

Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park

Saguaro National Park

Shenandoah National Park

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

And, National Monuments and Historic Sites...

 Chimney Rock National Historic Site

Mount Rushmore National Monument

Little Big Horn National Battlefield and Cemetery

San Antonio Missions National Historic Park

National Monuments in Washington, D.C.

There are more. But, you get the idea...we like National Parks.

There are more on our list of places we want to see.
Getting there a little at a time.

Do you like National Parks?
How many have you seen?

GO!

They're worth the trip.

Happy Trails...

If the Creek Don't Rise...

We live beside a wet weather creek.
It goes on two sides of our house.
It comes along the back, and turns at the pond
you can see in the photo below.

This little feature was built by the young man next door,
so his elderly Golden Lab could get wet, without swimming.

This was back in June. The water was flowing over the cart path,
making a little waterfall, on it's way to the Big Waterfall.

Sunday...three days ago...this creek was dry.
The pond...which is four feet deep in places...was dry.
Dry.

Not today.
I'm not sure how much rain we've had.
Our digital rain gauge chose Monday,
as a good day to die.

It's coming across the cart path with a lot of power.

It's rushing down to the Big Waterfall.
I didn't walk down there....it was still raining,
and I didn't want to dodge the runoff.

The pond is full, again.

And, I'm wondering if Nate's wall is still there,
so Carly can swim.

Water is an amazing thing.

We are thinking about those in Louisiana,
who are dealing with WAY too much water.
Flooding is such a sad thing to deal with.

I hope you're safe, wherever you are.

In the Lime Light....

I've talked about our daughter's new/old house.
And, the great yard and garden,
that came with it.

Among the great plants,
is a big lime tree.

I've never lived where you could have a citrus tree,
right in your front yard.

This one needed some care...
trimming and pruning back.

And, that happened.
Looks nice....

And, it seems very happy.
Lots of limes...

We came home Saturday,
with over ten pounds of these delicious limes.
Some are small...but SO tasty.

There is probably another ten pounds on the tree.
And...more to come.

Since we all love limes,
this is a very good thing.

Hope your weekend was great, too.

A Bad Shot...

We live on a golf course.
But, not right ON the golf course.

There are 'buffers' all around us....
or so we thought.

But, we still get balls hit into our yard.

We have whole baskets of them.

The tee box the balls come from is behind those houses,
and those trees...
and, way to the left.

Now THAT is a bad slice.

They sometime drop just feet away from me.

Maybe I should wear a helmet,
instead of my garden hat.

**********
We did get some rain.
Great treat, in July in Texas.
Now...if only August will bring a treat, as well.
